NYC vs other cities, after tax

Every city here sits in a state that levies no income tax on wages, which makes the comparison exact: the only difference from New York City is the New York State and New York City income tax layers.

Why these cities and not others

Nine states levy no income tax on wages for 2026: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Comparing against one of them isolates the New York layers exactly, with no need to model a second state’s bracket system.

Cities in states that do tax income need that state’s current brackets, which change every year and differ by filing status. Rather than publish a comparison built on stale rates, this site only shows the exact ones. For the in-region question, the New York State calculator and the commuter guides cover leaving the city without leaving New York.
